About this time last year I remember posting about Derma E’s Hydrating Night Creme (see post here). It really helped cure the dryness I was experiencing on my face and neck without making my skin too oily. Throughout the year I continued to use this product and found that it helped keep my face firm and moisturized without excess oil even during the warmer months, so I stuck with using it as my nighttime face creme.

I’m not a fan of switching products too often, especially skin products. When I find something I like that works, I tend to stick with it. However, I just saw that Derma E released an Activated Charcoal line and decided to incorporate the Purifying Gel Cleanser and Purifying Oil-Free Moisturizer into my skincare routine. I read numerous articles that charcoal is very purifying for the body, whether it’s ingested or used externally, it does prove to get rid of toxins and impurities that the body may have. Ever since I was younger, I always had a noticeable amount of blackheads and whiteheads, mainly in my chin and nose area. I’ve since learned that it’s a buildup of toxins in the pores. Because of this still being an issue, I tried the Activated Charcoal line.

I started using the Activated Charcoal duo right after Christmas. I wanted to take the time to use it before reviewing it, so that I could really see all it has to offer. When I started, I decided to switch up my normal face cleanser for the Purifying Gel Cleanser. It’s very smooth and silky. After using, your face feels moist and soft. Just an option, I recommend using a facial spin brush for an extra deep cleanse. I love the feeling and feel like it really gives me that extra glow. I use this cleanser with the facial brush nightly. After about a month of use, I actually noticed a decrease in the amount of blackheads and whiteheads on my face, especially in the prone problems areas of my chin and nose. Over time, the Activated Charcoal Purifying Gel Cleanser aided in clearing my face of all traces of makeup, oil and toxins accumulated throughout the day, which resulted in an improvement in my skins overall appearance.

After I cleanse, I moisturize with the Activated Charcoal Purifying Oil-Free Moisturizer. To the touch, it’s smooth and silky, same as the Gel Cleanser. It’s a very very light moisturizer and makes your face feel light and hydrated. I use this in the morning before applying primer and makeup and also at night. I replaced the Hydrating Night Creme with the Activated Charcoal moisturizer, but didn’t cut it out of my routine completely. I apply the Hydrating Night Creme on my neck nightly, and even sometimes in the morning if needed. My neck is super sensitive to products, so I wanted to still incorporate the Hydrating Night Creme in this area.

Overall, I really love the Activated Charcoal line and will continue to use it. It’s visibly improved my skin while reducing the amount of breakouts from clogged pores while also keeping my skin hydrated.

There are two additional products in this line, the Daily Detox Scrub and the 2-in-1 Charcoal mask, which I’m thinking about adding to my skin care routine one to two times a week. I will keep you updated when I do this.
